In May, the UK government published a draft of the Human Tissue and Embryos Bill for pre-legislative evaluation. The proposals will amend the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990. The Bill bans the creation of embryos that contain genetic material from both nonhuman animals and humans, including ‘cybrids’ — embryos containing human genetic material but which are created using nonhuman animal eggs, such as rabbit eggs.
